The deputy prime minister, Barnaby Joyce, has dissolved the national advisory body established less than two years ago to scrutinise major water projects. This came after an expert member of the body, Stuart Khan, expressed concern, in letters to other members, that the government’s funding announcements to build dams had been made for “brazenly political purposes” and without the advisory body having been given an opportunity to consider the proposals. There is no indication Joyce was aware of the letters or that they played any role in the decision.Guardian Australia revealed last week that the National Water Grid Advisory Body –…

The answer may be precision nutrition, which aims to understand the health effects of the complex interplay among genetics, our microbiome (the bacteria living in our gut), our diet and level of physical activity, and other social and behavioral characteristics. CNN  —  I recently asked my third grade son about crushes in his class. After two years of having limited interaction with human beings, I had to turn to him – the only person in our house who regularly socializes, albeit with his fellow 8- and 9-year-olds – for a gossip fix. He told me about a few crushes, including his own, and he also made it clear that there were some he couldn’t tell me about because he had been sworn to secrecy. I respected his secrets and didn’t push any harder. Despite the fact that he seemed happy…

When Hull City beat Swansea City 2-0 at the MKM Stadium on January 29, Shota Arveladze must have thought managing in the Championship was a breeze, wondering what all the fuss was about. That was the Georgian’s first game in charge of the Tigers and came on the back of successive wins against Blackburn Rovers – at home – and Bournemouth away, both of whom were at the top end of the division and going well. Of course, the season is only six games old, but FC would move…
