Prince Harry has recalled the time he and Meghan Markle were invited to the home of Prince William and Princess Kate “to clear the air” – and the Duchess was amazed by the incredibly grand home.
According to Harry’s memoir Spare, released earlier this year, both royal couples argued in the run-up to the 2018 royal wedding so he and Meghan later went to visit William and Kate’s home to make peace.
Harry revealed that Meghan allegedly upset Kate before the 2018 royal wedding by saying the Princess had “baby brain” due to having just given birth.
According to the book, Kate told Meghan the pair were “not close enough” for the Duchess to talk about her hormones and was upset by the comment.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex travelled to Kensington Palace in London in 2018. Harry wrote that Meghan was impressed by the “gorgeous” royal home though the visit made the couple feel sheepish about their own discounted furniture.

Harry recalled that Meghan said “wow” several times as they made their way through the home, and was impressed by the time the couple got to the sitting room.
He wrote: “Willy and Kate invited us over for tea. To clear the air. June 2018. We walked over one late afternoon.
“I saw Meg’s eyes widen as we entered their front door, walked past their front sitting room, down their hallway, into their study.”
He added: “We complimented them lavishly on their renovation, though we also thought sheepishly of our IKEA lamps, our discount sofa recently bought on sale, with Meg’s credit card, from sofa.com.”
Kate and William previously stayed in Apartment 1A in Kensington Palace, which featured five reception rooms, a night and day nursery plus a staff quarters.
However, Kate and William have said they owned Ikea furniture while living in Kensington Palace.
Marcus Engman, the head of design at Ikea, said that the royal couple told him both Prince George and Princess Charlotte had the furniture in their bedrooms while living at the palace.
He said: “I’m proud that we can suit everybody,
“That’s what we want Ikea to be—for the many people of the world, both royalty and ordinary people.”
The Prince and Princess of Wales have since moved out of London and their official residence is now Adelaide Cottage, a four-bedroom home located at Windsor Castle in Berkshire.
It was reported that Kate and William moved in 2022 to have “as normal a family life as possible” for their children, and also have a more quiet life, as Kensington Palace was quite busy due to it also being a popular tourist destination.
Harry and Meghan have also since moved home and when the couple left Britain in 2022 they bought an £11 million ($14 million) mansion in Montecito, California.
The Mediterranean-styled home is reported to have a games room, a library and a swimming pool, as well as six bedrooms and seven bathrooms.
The neighbourhood in which the royal couple now live is known to be favoured by celebrities due to it being quiet. Some of the Sussexes’s new neighbours include Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres.
